Modular log homesare made of even

Modular log homesare made of even, standardized mill logs which are easy to put together. Essentially, a mill log is one which has passed through a saw mill. Generally, the wood used in mill logs is pine, fir, cedar or spruce of which pine is the least expensive. However, the Western red cedar is considered to be the superior species to use in modular log cabins because of its durability and resistance to decay and corrosion. However, it is the most costly as compared to other wood species.

Modular log homesare a recent addition to the log cabin industry. Log houses are a long standing tradition for many areas of the country. The most traditional method of construction is to custom build them on site by hand. When labor costs put this method beyond the reach of many potential home owners the industry began offering kits to build homes with. While kits reduced the costs, the results were not what many people wanted. Blue Ridge Log Cabins' answer to both of these problems was the introduction of modular construction to the industry.

Modular log homesare not limited to a few styles and floor plans anymore. Of the top 3 manufacturers only, you would have a choice of over 100 styles and floor plans and each company allows for customization (obviously at an additional cost) if you are not 100% happy with the base plan. You can get round logs or rectangular logs with log on log style, different log sidding, dovetail corners, gable overhangs, you can definitely get "the look" of a traditional log home without the need to spend the money.
